Best post-pandemic moment in this world of working with clients is when Sarah, the mom of this family, asked if she could give me a hug at the end of our shoot and I said, OMG yes please. Sarah and Chris live in a smaller home in Bridgeport with this amazing open backyard space, and when we discussed their session we new most of the shots would be taken outside with a few being captured in—I love doing both to tell the “story of now” for a family. Our spaces may not always be ideal, but they’re still, and very much so in this case, beautiful. Capturing families in their home, however it is in their now, is so important. This whole session became a documentary shoot because I truly just captured every moment as it unfolded. Sarah and Chris are both folk musicians and they love to play together and for their son Soren. They asked if they could bring some of their favorite instruments outside and play while I worked, and I thought I literally hit some kind of jackpot. We had a magical session filled with wonder, music and play.
