Photographing couples is a lot like photographing kids; the more you play the better the photos. It’s a lot of work in the sense that every shot is uniquely directed, but catching what unfolds in the breakdown is definitely were the magic lies. I love capturing couples who are willing to be vulnerable, to hone in on each other and be present, and to have an actual good time during the session. I never want the shots to feel stiff. I do suggest posing initially because it sets people at ease when you tell them what to do with their bodies, but setting up a scenario is just the beginning, and this couple was so much fun to capture because their love poured out of every shot. It was an honor to photograph them in their 20th year of marriage!
